Every once in a while, a movie so thrilling, so exciting comes out and from the trailers alone you can easily spot that it has that certain x-factor that most movies lack. The upcoming movie Moon is such a movie. As you might have guessed from the name, it takes place on the moon. And the moon isn’t such a safe place to be.

In the very near future, the astronaut named Sam Bell is on a 3 year mission on the moon. He is all alone in his moonbase to do a job for his company, Lunar Industries. Sam’s job is to mine Helium-3, which has become Earth’s primary source of energy. Since Sam is all alone in his moonbase, he feels lonely on a frequent basis. The satellite which provided him with live communications has broken down, and only recorded messages can now be exchanged with Earth.

Luckily, Sam’s time on the moon is nearly over. He is looking forward to being reunited with his wife Tess and their little daughter Eve. A few weeks from now, Sam will leave the moon base known as Sarang. Within the base, Sam has nobody to talk to except for Getty, the onboard computer who has good intentions but lacks personality.

Right before Sam gets to go home again, his health deteriorates. He’s starting to get headaches and hallucinations. He also finds himself unable to hang on to his concentration. While doing a routine drive across the moon’s surface, his lack of focus leads to a near fatal accident. Back at the base, Sam recovers from his experience and all of a sudden meets a version of himself that is younger and angrier. This younger Sam claims to be here to fullfill the same contract as Sam himself.

With an intriguing storyline such as this, you can’t go wrong. I can’t wait to watch Moon free myself. The movie has a solid cast as well. Sam Rockwell plays Sam Bell, and the very lovely Dominique McElligott plays Sam’s wife. Kevin Spacey does the voice of the onboard computer in a very convincing way.

The Sony Pictures Classics studio is releasing Moon on the 12th of June. The movie has gotten an R rating for language, so most people should be able to sit through it without being offended too much. This movie is the very best of the drama, sci-fi and thriller genres all in one. Make sure to see it!
