PC Satellite TV Software Review

How to watch TV on my computer?

Written on March 9, 2010 – 6:51 am | by admin |

There is a tv socket next to my computer that goes through the arial. What I want to do is have something that plugs into that socket then into my computer so the computer can watch digital tv. Mum and my sister are able to kick me off the tv so I get very angry and it would be good if somebody could tell me what I need to buy to do this… I’m in Western Australia if that helps.

If you just want regular high definition digital TV and not cable TV then all you need is a USB Digital receiver. These are about the size of a small MP3 player and just plug into one of the USB slots on your computer. You can buy these at most places that sell computers e.g Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, etc. Reception is usually pretty bad unless you plug an aerial onto the end of the USB stick but a cheapie $10 aerial will usually work OK if you are in a normal reception area.

Costs for the USB Receiver range from about $50 to $200. The more expensive ones usually have two tuners (which a way of getting better reception) but I have an $80 one that works fine. The tuner will come with a software CD that usually also lets you use your computer to record TV as well as watch it. You usually also get a cute little aerial that won’t actually work unless you are standing next to the transmission tower.
